BREAKING BARRIERS IN HISTORY- Process Paper

We choose our topic because Bayard Rustin is someone we didn’t know a lot about but who accomplished a lot in his lifetime.   Bayard Rustin had an impact on Civil Rights Movement, Bus Boycott, The March on Washington, The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Peace Movement, Socialism, Gay Rights Movement, Neoconservatism, and fought for rights for the Southern Railway Company.  He for a lot of rights and was passionate about a lot of things. We choose this topic to expand our learning on these rights and to learn more about who made it possible for our world to have the rights we do today, Bayard being one of those people.

We conducted our research by researching background information and from what we were learning from that making searches and depthening our knowledge on the topic.  We found a good amount of primary resources through pictures. There was also a lot of dialogue of Bayard from interviews. We listened to podcasts with either him or his partner Walter Naegle.  We read lots of articles and stories. We reached out to Walter Naegle who was the love of Bayards life and Bayards “adopted son”. We conducted our interview which is used in our website. The interview emails are shown below, we found our interview with him very helpful.

We choose a website because we wanted to challenge ourselves we have both never created a website and although we had some technology struggles along the way we came through and built a website.  We struggled with links but now for future projects we know how to build a website and some tricks to succeeding. In highschool we write a lot of papers and we do many presentations and we rarely get the opportunity to create a website so we thought we would challenge ourselves and figure it out along the way.  Technology is a huge part of our lives, and the schools push students to use it. We faced challenges like linking and organization of pages but overcame them.

Because of Bayard Rustin’s background he broke through social barriers by the Bus Boycott, The March on Washington , and many other things which led to fair working opportunities for African Americans, even if there is a start in rise of violence now.  Bayard was constantly fighting for what he believed in no matter what the punishment may be. He and other leaders fought and broke barriers to overcome everything that happened. He worked very hard and suffered many consequences for standing up for equality.  He was a strong leader that made it possible for the equality we have today to be possible. Bayard not only worked with Civil Rights but also Bus Boycott, The March on Washington, The Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Peace Movement, Socialism, Gay Rights Movement, Neoconservatism, and fought for rights for the Southern Railway Company.  He made so many things today possible through the barriers he broke for the freedom we have today.
